Francois Boutemy’s interest in photography has grown
organically into his daily occupation. Since he was a child
he has had an active interest in the use of imagery as
commentary on the world around him. Based in London, he is
never short of subject matter and stimulation. Drawing on
life experience he has always been particularly taken with
the challenge and inspiration of street photography - the
beauty of capturing fragile and temporal moments, and
portraying them through an abstracted lens never fails to
satisfy. Recently though, he has pushed himself in new
directions, experimenting within a studio setting, the
results of which you can find right ‘here’.
Recent projects include working with
Bassline Circus.
Francois has been documenting live shows as well as
rehearsals, providing a wealth of material for the
group’s publicity archive. More documentary
photography in the shape of
Inner Terrestrials
gigs adds a vibrant edge to Francois already colourful
portfolio. His close connections with the band allow the
viewer to be taken through scenarios that would otherwise
be lost to memory.
Francois is currently working a new book; ‘Words and
Pictures’. This is a collaborative effort, and will
be a conversation between his photos and verse. This is due
for completion in 2007 and will in fact be Francois’
second publication. The first he published himself in 2000
with the title, Made In England. Written in French, it
tells the tales, primarily through pictures, of his travels
about England as a teenager. It’s available for
purchase here, and has proved highly popular with those
who’ve come across it.
To read more about the person behind the pictures, go
‘here’ for an exclusive interview with this
elusive individual.
